The Washington Post is reporting that two cases of Legionnaires’ Disease have been confirmed by the Baltimore health officials at a senior living facility.
What is disturbing is, according to the report, the first case was reported in March, and now a second one last week. This raises a serious concern about what was done immediately following the confirmation of the first Legionnaires’ case.
Legionnaires’ Disease is a serious illness, particularly for the elderly that may have weakened immune systems. When a case is discovered, it is critical to immediately alert the public and anyone in the immediate area that might come in contact with the legionella bacteria, and aggressively diagnose the source and disinfect the location of legionella.
While the housing facility is now testing the building’s water supply, it is not clear what steps were taken immediately after the confirmation of the first case.
