Confirmed Source: Spring Hill Suites Marriot in Altamonte Springs, Florida (Orlando)
Sources have confirmed that there has been a legionnaires disease outbreak originating from a hotel near Orlando, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. WFTV.com has identified the hotel as SpringHill Suites Marriott. Other sources have indicated that the Florida Department of Health in conducting an investigation, and has sought interviews with customers that stayed at the hotel, and others who may have been exposed.
One of the important actions that a state or local health department can take is to notify the public of an outbreak of legionnaires disease. Too many times the discovery of legionnaires is kept hidden in the bureaucracy of an investigative agency when the public has a right to know. The recent outbreak in Portugal is an example.
This has also been evident in this recent outbreak at a hotel in the Orlando area. And they have apparently established that the while there are several hotel customers suffering from the illness, some may be in critical condition and in the hospital with severe cases.
