The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is currently investigating five travel-associated cases of Legionnaires’ disease linked to two hotels in Las Vegas: the South Point Hotel and The Grandview at Las Vegas. The cases involve guests who stayed at these properties between August 2024 and April 2025.

Confirmed Cases and Response

  • South Point Hotel: Two individuals who stayed at the hotel in August 2024 and February 2025 have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. Both have since recovered.

  • The Grandview at Las Vegas: Three guests who stayed in February and April 2025 were diagnosed, with all three requiring hospitalization. Two have recovered, while one remains hospitalized.

Environmental water sampling conducted by SNHD at both hotels tested positive for Legionella bacteria, the cause of Legionnaires’ disease. In response, both properties are undertaking immediate water system remediation efforts and follow-up testing to ensure guest safety. They are also cooperating fully with SNHD’s investigation and have initiated guest notifications regarding potential exposure.

The swift response and thorough investigation by the Southern Nevada Health District underscore their commitment to public health and safety. Their proactive measures in identifying the source, coordinating with affected properties, and informing the public are commendable.

About Legionnaires’ Disease

Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by inhaling water droplets contaminated with Legionella bacteria. Symptoms typically begin within 2 to 10 days after exposure and include cough, shortness of breath, fever, muscle aches, and headaches. Individuals at increased risk include those over 50, smokers, and people with chronic lung conditions or weakened immune systems.

Know Your Rights

Guests who stayed at the South Point Hotel on or after April 16, 2025, or at The Grandview on or after March 27, 2025, and are experiencing symptoms consistent with Legionnaires’ disease are urged to seek medical attention promptly. They should inform their healthcare provider about their recent stay and potential exposure.

For more information or to report symptoms, individuals can contact the Southern Nevada Health District’s Helpline at (702) 759-4636 (INFO), Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you or a loved one stayed at the South Point Hotel during the affected timeframe and experienced symptoms consistent with Legionnaires’ disease, it’s important to seek medical attention—and legal guidance. Exposure to Legionella is often preventable, and hotels and property managers may be held accountable for failing to properly maintain water systems.
